hairline and frontal area. He also wanted to be able to cut his hair very close to his scalp so he opted for a Follicular Unit Excision (FUE) procedure for his hair transplant. We transplanted 1,371 ultra-refined follicular unit grafts into the frontal hairline area using a high-density technique at our Portland Hair Transplant Clinic as depicted in the photographs. The patient is extremely satisfied with his results and very happy with the density of the recipient area. These post-operative results are 1 year from the procedure. What is Follicular Unit Excision?
FUE is a type of hair transplant surgery that transfers individual hair follicles to areas affected by thinning hair or hair loss. The donor hair is typically harvested from the back of the scalp but can also be taken from the beard or chest hair in certain circumstances. The hair transplants are extracted using a punch technique to minimize scarring and increase the viability of the transplanted hair. Dr. Gabel’s manual technique for hair follicle extraction and placement allows him to carefully place the hairs in areas like the hairline while ensuring an aesthetically pleasing result.
Who is a Candidate for Hair Restoration Surgery Using FUE?
FUE hair transplantation is a great option for patients suffering from male pattern baldness or female pattern hair loss. Unlike the strip technique, FUE leaves small, circular scars in the donor area so patients can easily cut their hair short without the scars being visible; this was one of our patient’s desired goals. It’s also a great option for patients who have lost skin laxity in the scalp after previous hair transplant surgeries using the strip technique.
