The Gabel Center in Oregon is dedicated to achieving the best results in hair restoration for men and women. Dr. Gabel uses state of the art hair transplant technology and incorporates cutting edge research from the newest hair loss studies.
A recent informal study, published in the Archives of Dermatology, found that the women with the most extensive hair loss had higher rates of Type 2 diabetes and bacterial scalp infections than those with mild or no hair loss.
People with diabetes tend to be susceptible to infections, including scalp infections. This may predispose some women to hair loss after salon treatments such as braids, weaves, and extensions.
Some causes of female hair loss include:
- Hormones- Hormonal imbalances such as an over or under active thyroid gland may cause thinning hair. Treating the thyroid disease will usually help this type of hair loss.
- Child birth- It’s common for many women to notice hair loss after pregnancy. This too is caused by hormones. Once the hormones have returned to pre-pregnancy levels, extra hair is shed with the normal cycle of hair growth and loss returning over time.
- Hair Loss from Menopause and Hormonal Therapies – Some causes can come from hormonal therapies such as Progesterone, a female hormone that inhibits the development of a new follicle. Hair loss and menopause are commonly linked and result in thinning hair in older women.
Hair loss is more then just a cosmetic problem. By studying the research in this field Dr. Gabel and his staff are able to give their patients the best results.
